Mel Wright (They/Them)
As a queer-identifying counseling student pursuing a Master of Science in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling at Duquesne University, Mel is committed to providing affirming and trauma-informed care that empowers clients and supports healing. Before graduate school, they worked as a case manager, gaining firsthand insight into the systemic barriers that often limit access to mental health services. This experience shapes their belief that healing is both an individual and collective process, and that understanding clients within their broader systems is essential.
Their therapeutic approach centers on creating a compassionate space to explore identity, relationships, and lived experiences while critically examining systems of oppression. Mel draws from Person-Centered Therapy, Feminist Theory, and Relational Psychodynamic Therapy to support clients through life transitions, grief, trauma, LGBTQ+ identity exploration, family dynamics, romantic relationships, and whatever else emerges in the therapeutic space. They strive to maintain a warm, non-judgmental, and open presence in every session.
