Trystan Reaver, Intern (He/They)
I currently hold a BA in Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I am also actively pursuing a master’s in social work along with a child, youth, and family certificate at the University of Pittsburgh. Before pursuing my MSW, I worked as a behavioral health technician, where I had the opportunity to work in a structured group setting to address specific behavioral goals while supporting children with social, learning, and behavioral difficulties. Working directly with children in this role not only allowed me to gain experience supporting individualized therapeutic goals but also deepened my understanding of the importance of the qualities and strengths that youth bring with them – their existing abilities, interests, and unique personalities. This experience further helped to shape my interest in supporting children’s development and well-being as they navigate social, personal, and systemic challenges.
In therapeutic and clinical contexts, I value maintaining curiosity, warmth, and unconditional positive regard so that clients feel heard and accepted without judgment. Drawing on prior experiences and current coursework, I am currently developing greater familiarity with the many ways in which youth are impacted by their surrounding environments, systemic forces, and existing supports – in addition to the importance of collaboration with families, educators, and other professionals – in fostering overall well-being. I am particularly interested in expanding my understanding of clinical approaches that support emotional expression and regulation.
I am committed to continuing to hone the skills required to understand each individual’s specific needs and experiences throughout our work together.
